I feel there has been a huge disservice in the golf teaching industry getting players to hit upward angle of attacks with their drivers. Trackman and Foresight both released data last year updating their findings that concluded that the best players in the game actually have a negative angle of attack with their drivers.
I have always taught that the driver should be struck with a downward angle for optimum results unless you are training for the long drive competition.
I also don’t think it’s a coincidence when a client tells me coach , I’m finally hitting my driver well but now can I set up a lesson for my woods and hybrids because I can’t hit them worth nothing now.
There is a direct correlation between hitting your driver with an upward angle of attack above +2 and your fairway woods and hybrids going astray.
Long drive competitors have what I call tainted data because many are using very whippy shafts and driver lofts of 3-6 degrees tainting the data significantly.
So next time you are on the practice facility do yourself a favor and stop trying to hit up on the ball with your driver and watch how your entire bag improves in the process. This is not a one session cure it could take 2-3 weeks to reverse the years of faulty information that has been ingrained in your swing process so be patient.
